 Error when attempting to upload images...
Posted by The Racer X on Wed 09 Sep 2009 @ 18:14.

Hey there. Love the script so far! I hate to be a pest but I have an issue I can't solve:
Everything went pretty good with the install and mods etc:
http://www.chops911.com/grfx/index.php
But, no one is having any luck uploading images at this point.
I am getting a error when I try to upload as Admin, or guest.
I have Fireworks and all of my images have been edited with that and saved as common jpg's, jpeg's, gif's etc.
Any suggestions please?

UPDATE 1: I just tried to upload an avatar here again with success. I attempted to upload the same image to the gallery page with the same error both as guest and Admin.

Has your server got the GD library installed? Without it you won't be able to upload pics. If you are not sure if it's installed create a file with the following three lines

<?
phpinfo()
?>

Save the file and upload it to your web space then call it with your browser. It'll give detailed info of your PHP setup. You should find a section on the GD library. If it's not there and you run your own server you'll have to upload it and reconfigure PHP to use it or if you are on hosted web space try asking your host if they will include it.

 Have that part...

Thanks a ton for that quick response!
I did as instructed and below is the info for the section GD:
GD Support enabled
GD Version bundled (2.0.34 compatible)
FreeType Support enabled
FreeType Linkage with freetype
FreeType Version 2.2.1
GIF Read Support enabled
GIF Create Support enabled
JPG Support enabled
PNG Support enabled
WBMP Support enabled
XBM Support enabled

FYI...I am on GoDaddy with a dedicated Linux server. Also, the first time I ran the Photo links on the left of the Admin page, I got a errors with each one, from top to bottom. I used the error messages to trace down a ";" at the end of three scripts near the last "echo". The first 2 ";"'s I removed solved the errors. The 3rd one there was no ";" in the vicinity, so I took out the "echo" and all the errors went away. I hope that didn't contribute to this issue. Or should I have removed all of the last "echos"?

The ';' problem is a known bug that I'll fix in the next release. It seems to be only on some of the latest versions of PHP.

I just had a look at your web site and there seems to be another problem regarding headers already being sent. I see you are using Dreamweaver. Not sure if that could cause the header problem.

Back to your original problem, have you changed the upload directory permissions using CHMOD? You need to allow it write access.

 Yepper...

I have all of the folders and files associated with images set properly.
And you hit the page when I was testing some html with this script embedded. Funny thing about that was it ran clean since last night...That error just came up before you seen it.
Anyway, here is exactly what the error says:

Error
Wrong file type - GIF, JPG or PNG ONLY

I hope this will be some type of clue for you.

Major clue :)
Download the file http://www.funkgallery.co.uk/files/index1.zip
Rename your existing index.php to something different and upload the file in the .zip to your web space. Try uploading a picture and let me know what the error message reads. It's should show the file type.
Are you using IE? I've had this problem reported a few times and it's always been with IE but only on certain servers and so far I haven't been able to replicate it on my server or fix it.

 Hm...

No luck. But a bit of a different message on this one:

Error
Wrong file type - GIF, JPG or PNG ONLY. File uploaded was

I scrolled across the page to make sure any other text wasn't hidden. That sentence is incomplete for whatever reason.
And yes, I am using IE8 with all of the updates. I did have a simular problem earlier this week when my files were not being recognized by php untill I changed the way I saved them from ut-8 to ansi. I have been saving all edited php files under that format since...Maybe another clue?
And thanks for the efforts here. I know I am a pain!

Okay, I'll look into this for you a bit more tomorrow. It's just gone midnight and I have to be up a 6am for work :C

Can you try the following file :- http://www.funkgallery.co.uk/files/index2.zip and see if that sorts the problem.

 YES!

Mr Birch. Thank you SO MUCH for your time to solve this issue for me. That worked perfectly! I am sure Chops' minion will love using this application. When I am done embedding this into html, I will be sure to include a larger link to your site and promote this script as much as possible for sure. And I will insist he makes a donation for the time and efforts involved. Great job and I hope I will be able to contribute to this forum in the future...

sorry, but you really should make a new version because this last one dose not work.

at first i have a problem with (echo ;) ,
then it was a trouble with uploading of photos like one slightly higher, and now after using index.php from index2.zip i have this problem :

Error uploading file! Here's some debugging info:
UPF = images/photos/creative13.jpg
FTYPE = image/jpeg
UPTHUMB = images/thumbs/creative13.jpg
UN = creative13.jpg
Array ( [userfile] => Array ( [name] => creative13.jpg [type] => image/jpeg [tmp_name] => /tmp/phpytz6ST [error] => 0 [size] => 118021 ) )

maybe someone have any ideas about it and can help me :?
